Tantra massage after a long flight into Amsterdam
Tantra massage is patient, slow on purpose and led by the breath, and it is the format that suits a very particular condition common among first-time visitors: a body that arrived hours ago but is still running on the clock of wherever it started. After a long-haul flight some people fall asleep at eight in the evening; others lie awake at midnight feeling as though it is mid-afternoon. Tantra works with that alertness rather than against it, slowing the breath first and letting the rest follow. It does not fit into an hour. Ninety minutes is where it becomes itself, and two hours is common. It is also the format where the pace matters most, so it is worth booking on an evening with nothing after it.
Origins
What is offered as tantra massage in European cities is a twentieth-century adaptation. It draws on ideas from Indian tantric traditions about breath and attention, filtered through Western workshop teaching from the nineteen seventies onwards, and it has little to do with the original texts beyond that borrowed emphasis on slowness.
The technique
Breath comes first and sets the pace for everything else. Strokes are long, light and continuous, often using the whole forearm, and they are timed to the exhale. Stillness is part of the method: pauses with a hand resting in one place are deliberate. There is no fixed sequence; she follows what the body in front of her needs.
What to expect
She begins with a few minutes of conversation and then breathing, often lying beside you or sitting at the edge of the bed, before any touch at all. The massage that follows is slow and continuous, with long strokes timed to the breath and pauses that feel long the first time. Nothing is rushed and nothing is hurried towards a point. She explains her limits before starting, and the pace throughout is hers. Most guests find the session asks them to do less than they expected rather than more. It closes as slowly as it opened.
Who it suits
The visitor lying awake at midnight on the first night, body insisting it is still the afternoon. Anyone who finds ordinary massage too brisk. A guest with a free evening and no alarm set for early the next day.
Benefits
A nervous system that has been on alert through airports, queues and unfamiliar streets finally gets permission to stand down. Sleep afterwards tends to come easily and last, which after a time-zone change is the thing most visitors are short of.
At your address
Tantra massage in hotel rooms across central Amsterdam and in airport hotel rooms by arrangement, ninety minutes or longer, outcall only, for visitors unsettled by a long flight and a new time zone.
Length
Ninety minutes as a minimum; two hours is the length most guests settle on. Three hours is available for those who want the pace to be truly unhurried. Sixty minutes is not recommended for this format.

Questions
Asked before booking
I have never had a tantra massage. Is there anything I should learn first?
There is nothing to know in advance. She explains what she is doing as it happens and sets the pace herself. Most of what you are asked to do is breathe slowly and let her lead.
Why does it need ninety minutes?
The opening phase of breath and stillness takes time, and cutting the session short removes the part that makes it different from other formats. At ninety minutes it has room to work; at sixty it rarely does.
Is it a good idea on the night I land?
If you are exhausted and likely to sleep early, a shorter sensual session suits better. If you land and find yourself wide awake at an hour when you should be asleep, tantra is the better choice.
